Despite the UK Labour party’s claim that ‘attention to climate change will come at a neutral or negative cost,’ the government is ramping up efforts by investing in four new eco-towns. These developments are not free of course – the cost could be anywhere between £2 and 12bn. Are eco-towns really the way to go? What about all the smoggy, gritty towns and cities already in existence? Shouldn’t we clean up the mess we’ve made before producing a shiny new version?
